I really enjoyed the app and I use it every day, so I purchased because I can afford $3 for the year. I tried this out for about 2 weeks because the subscription bug I got to try it for a little longer. Right now I added them in the journal and just search for them when I need them. Also, I love the ability to print the journal! But it would be nice to be able to print the rituals too, as well as, the ability to add my own rituals / ceremonies. The screen does not rotate when you open it in the iPad and I use it everyday so I prefer to type rather than text the journal entries. My only feedback would be an iPad compatible version of the app. The journal search feature is so much better than tearing through hundreds of journal pages in a binder. I journal everyday so being able to use my phone to take notes the moment something happens vs waiting until the end of the day is very convenient. This is the only app I have found that allows you to sync your lady cycle with the lunar cycle (mind blown) and I have fallen in love with the journal feature. I love the rituals and meditations, I have used several already and some have become my staple rituals that I do every month. I love love LOVE this app! I was originally just looking for a lunar calendar, but this app is everything I wanted and more. Translucent materials allow partial transmission of light rays. Transparent objects appear to be colorless as they do not reflect light. The light is hardly reflected or scattered. The objects appear colored because of the reflection of a particular wavelength. Reflection: The incident light rays may get reflected at the surface of an opaque object. Due to cumulative scattering, the energy of the wave can be completely dissipated before the emergence of light from the other side. Scattering: The molecules of the medium can absorb and scatter light in random directions. This process highly reduces the intensity of the incident light. The causes behind opacity are,Ībsorption: The light rays can be absorbed inside the medium. Light rays can penetrate the substances to some depth. Non-uniform Density: If a material has a non-uniform distribution of matter, its density is different at different parts. Translucency can occur due to the following properties, If any object is seen through a translucent material, the image appears fuzzy or blurred. Consequently, the light rays emerge in random directions. The light rays get scattered in the interior of such objects. glass) are used for lenses, spherical mirrors, spectacles, and many more.Ī substance is called translucent if it allows partial transmission. Window glasses are transparent in nature. Therefore, a clear image is seen on the other side of the substance. While passing through a transparent object, the amount of scattering is very less. Light rays follow Snell’s law of refraction. Most of the light, incident on a transparent object, transmits through it. The refractive index of transparent substances is nearly uniform. Light rays can pass through these substances. The second that has < 100% light transmission is a translucent object, while that completely blocks the light is opaque by nature.Īll these materials have some properties that we will understand on this page in detail.Ĭomparison of Transparent, Translucent, and Opaque Objects So, the first object that allows 100% light transmission is a transparent object. What these objects are, and why do we study them in physics? Well, physics is all about understanding the science behind real-life objects around us. However, on the other hand, some objects don't even allow light to pass through. Or there are objects that create an obstruction in the path of light and are not as clear reflector of light as clear glass does. Some objects allow light to pass through clear glass. Various objects that we see around exhibit some property. Some examples are oily paper, tissue, some plastics, etc. Any object, seen through a translucent material, appears fuzzy or blurred. A part of the incident light may get reflected or scattered as it passes through the interior of the material. Translucent materials allow partial transmission of light through them. As a result, light rays cannot pass through opaque materials. Opaque materials either reflect or absorb any incident light. One example of transparent material is pure glass. Any object can be seen through the transparent material. Materials, which allow complete transmission of light, are called transparent. There’s also very special Mii that will appear in the game, such as Mario & Luigi and Beethoven. Now, about Mii Central: it’s a feature of Miitopia that allows you to download Mii created by other players. Keep that in mind if you want to use QR Codes (including those found below)! Of course, you can always edit those settings if you want. To be more precise, those Mii keep the settings from their respective game, which means you can start using them right away after their transfer. Important note about Mii transfers: only Mii from Tomodachi Life and Miitomo have personality settings set up automatically. That’s right, you can add the Mii of your friends pretty easily from within Miitopia that way Alternatively, you can use a QR Code, if the Mii isn’t in your game (so that you don’t have to import it to your copy of Tomodachi Life first, before transferring it to Miitopia) Tomodachi Life: you can import Mii you have created/imported in this game (you will need your save data on the console). If you want to import Mii from another game, you can do so using the following: That way, you will be able to try out various classes, and find out the ones you prefer. If you’re not happy with the current class of a particular Mii, you can always change later in the game, once you’ve progressed far enough. But the class also determines their appearance. Some of them are good at attacking, others focus on helping teammates: you have to take that into account when choosing the class of your characters. There’s a total of 12 classes available (+ some “secret” ones), such as Warrior, Pop Star, Tank, and more. This will determine their role in battle. You can choose to either go with a personality close to the actual person’s, or with something completely different: it’s for you to decide! The personality of a Mii will influence how they behave during battle, and the kind of actions they will take. You can chose among 7 different personalities, such as Stubborn, Energetic, and more. Fortunately, you can import Mii from various games/apps! If you want to create them from scratch, here’s what you have to do: downloading them from other players, via Mii Central. In order to populate this world, you need Mii. This applies to literally all the characters in the game, from your party to the Royal Family, and even the Demon Lord. In Miitopia, the characters are your favourite Mii. We’ve only scratched the surface of Premiere Pro’s compression settings here. Constant bitrate is best suited for video with little motion, like interviews. Again, a high CBR will preserve data, a lower rate will remove data. It doesn’t matter if there’s a lot of motion, or no motion at all-the bitrate stays the same. This bitrate setting is best used when there is a lot of movement in your clip.ĬBR uses the same bitrate throughout the export, regardless of what is happening in the frame. VBR 2 Pass will give you a more precise compression, but it will take longer.īoth the 1-Pass and 2-Pass options include a Target and Maximum Bitrate slider bars. During a 1-pass VBR, Premiere is making the bitrate decisions on the fly. Then it’s during the second pass when the compression is applied. The first pass looks at the video to determine the best bitrate to use based on motion, color, etc. As this name also implies, 2-pass VBR involves Premiere Pro going through the video twice. You can perform an even more precise encode by using VBR 2 Pass. This helps maximize the file quality/size ratio. When more motion takes place, it will raise the bitrate automatically. When there is less motion in the scene, VBR will discard more data (because it can do so without any image quality problems). Should You Use Variable or Constant Bitrate?Īs you might expect and as the name implies, variable bitrate varies the bitrate during export. Likewise, lowering the bitrate will bring both the quality and file size down. Using a high bitrate will give you a better quality image but with a larger file size. You’re trying to keep the quality of the video image high but with a reasonable and manageable file size. While this can seem confusing, it’s actually quite simple. The higher the bitrate, the more information you keep, and the larger the file size. Use slider bars to adjust the data or “bit” rate. A lot of movement means a lot of additional pixels to compress/encode. The key to choosing a bitrate encoding method depends on how much movement you have in your video. When working with bitrate, you have two different flavors- variable bitrate (VBR) and constant bitrate (CBR). Buried down low in the Video tab, this setting gives you control over your image quality and file size. When it comes to export settings, bitrate is one of the most important options you can understand. This analysis will decide how much data to keep and how much to throw out. To oversimplify, the bitrate settings basically tell Premiere Pro how to analyze your video while encoding/compressing it. Offset timecode frame by frame if need be.Įach overlay has position, offset, scale, and opacity properties which allow for complete customization. Specify if you want to use timecode from the source file, or if you’d like to generate your own. That is, if you still have screen real estate. In addition to image and name overlays, you can also throw timecode into the mix. That way, we can avoid the unfortunate circumstance where a client accidentally publishes the wrong version of the file. These overlays allow you to add a prefix and suffix, and select how you want the name to be formatted-Prefix and Suffix Only, Source File Name (with or without extension), or Output File Name (with or without extension).Īnother practical use case: If I am sharing a temporary file with a client that is definitely not the final version (maybe it only has temp music), I will put TEMP FOR REVIEW in the lower-right corner. This is helpful when you’re working with dailies, or editing footage from a multicamera shoot, etc. Use name overlays to properly label and organize your footage. Be sure to use a PNG or other image file that supports transparency. To add an image overlay, first, check the box and then choose your image via the Applied drop-down menu. You can use image overlays in Premiere Pro to add a watermark to your content or to embed a logo in a corner of your frame to help brand your content. All of these overlays can be found under the Effects tab located just under the main Export Settings section. In the Export Settings dialog box, you can choose to apply three different types of overlays- images, names, and timecode. Here are nine of those tools you can, and should, be using right now. Think of it more as a collection of tools that allow you to further modify and prepare your content for publication. The Export Settings dialog box in Premiere Pro isn’t just a place to name your file and select a location for it to be saved. For instance, if they just got a copy of an I Survived book like I Survived the American Revolution, 1776, talk to them a little bit about what America was like at that time in history. Children will be asked to collect information from a variety of sources and summarize it in school. Reading comprehension skills are key at this time! That's because at this point, kids are moving on from learning to read, to reading to learn. For example, ask your child to use words that have the /əl/ sound spelled with ‘-le’, plus consonants ‘z,’ ‘g,’ and ‘k.’ By looking at an example text or poem (choose one from No Fair! No Fair! And Other Jolly Poems of Childhood), your child can identify words that fit the patterns of poetry. Create silly sentences: Encourage your child to use their imagination to come up with the silliest sentences they can, using words that include a certain spelling pattern. Give your child some inspiration from popular read-alouds.ģ. This is called “Write a Story to Read a Story” in the education world. Personalize story time: Have your child narrate a brief personal story to you while you write it down. Ask your child to guess what that word is! Celebrate solving the mystery with a final reading, asking your child to clap every time the word is read. This is a fun way to introduce new high-frequency words to your child.Ģ. Introduce clues about that mystery word in the text, including the number of letters it has, a letter the mystery word contains, or even a specific sound in the word. Decode mystery words: Read part of a book out loud to your child, omitting one "mystery word" that is frequently used (like "because" or "always"). Use these teacher-approved approaches, and you'll watch your child's reading skills skyrocket (be sure to also check out the best books for reluctant readers in 1st and 2nd grade).ġ. So, if you’d like to get your feet wet with echo transcription, consider getting an earlier version of the program for closer to $50. I’ve used several versions, and everything from version 11 onward works well. The latest version of Dragon, v15, costs a hefty $300. You can ask the software to scan specific documents to learn any jargon and unconventional spellings that you use often. While there are built-in speech recognition features for PC and Mac, I’ve had the most success using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. If you find that your fingers get fatigued during long typing sessions, try the “echo dictation” technique by re-dictating the audio and letting a VR program do the actual work of typing. If you’re transcribing in an environment with high levels of white noise, a pair of noise-canceling headphones, like Bose QuietComfort or the Sony WH-1000XM2, can work wonders for your productivity (and your sanity). If you don’t want to pay for a word expander program, you can also use your computer’s autocorrect feature to achieve the same thing – it works the same way, just with fewer features. For example, you might tell the program to expand “tsm” to “thanks so much.” Word expanders let you define your own text shorthand for commonly used words and phrases, eliminating tons of keystrokes. Used properly, they can increase your typing speed by an estimated 30%. Word expander programs, such as Instant Text by Textware Solutions and Shorthand for Windows by OfficeSoft, are another tool of the trade for professional transcriptionists. If you decide not to invest in a foot pedal, you can configure your transcription program to control audio playback using the numeric keypad or function keys, which is still more efficient than using a mouse. Many of today’s foot pedals, like the popular Infinity USB, are plug and play, so you can benefit from the extra speed boost immediately. The Notes app adds tables and notes you can pin to the top of the list.Įven better than the upgrades you can see in other parts of High Sierra are the improvements in Safari that involve things that you won't see and sounds that you won't hear. Safari's new controls over browser tracking mean that you're less likely to see ads urging you to buy a product you looked at on a different site a few days ago-or urging you to buy something that you already bought. Safari instantly becomes my favorite browser on any platform with its by-default muting of all sound from any web page you visit, so that if you're listening to some quiet guitar music on iTunes, a strident announcer won't interrupt it when you visit a news site. A drop-down on any webpage, or a menu in Safari's Preferences pane, lets you switch off these options either everywhere or for specific sites. You get similar fine control over page zoom, Reader mode, and notifications.Īpple shared some test results showing Safari as the fastest browser. Safari under High Sierra certainly feels very fast, and in some quick-and-dirty runs of the Sunspider benchmark, it took about half the time to run compared with Chrome and Firefox-remarkable. On HTML5 compatibility, Apple's browser still trails Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on the HTML5Test (Opens in a new window) site, but I haven't run into any site incompatibilities, as many of those HTML5 features aren't yet widely used. Bottom line: When I can choose between Edge, Chrome, or Firefox on a Windows machine or Safari on a Mac, I always choose Safari. Other invisible low-level enhancements won't be evident in consumer software until developers make use of the new Metal 2 technology that produces faster graphics on modern hardware or new virtual-reality support that will bring the same kind of high-powered VR hardware and software to the Mac that's now available for Windows. Good luck and thanks again – goofy this is an issue on this OS that isn’t addressed from the Disk Utility (argh!).When you upgrade an existing system to High Sierra, and your system uses modern flash-based storage, your old HFS+ system is automatically transformed to APFS. cd /Volumes/MyPartition02/SomeOtherDirectory). This is an answer I’ve been looking for for years – THANK-YOU (MacOS High Sierra) So enter the following into the Terminal window: dd if=/dev/zero of=~/stupidfile.crap What we need to do is to start making a file that will grow until the disk is full. Open the Terminal application in Applications/Utilities. Let’s Fill Up The Disk To The Brim To Remove Purgeable So here’s how to do it in MacOS High Sierra. That’s because APFS is smart enough to recognize that it’s the same file, so it makes pointers to the original data, so it doesn’t take up extra space. APFS – How a Smart File System Can Make Some Things Difficultīecause Apple has changed to a much smarter file system, my old method of creating a file and then duplicate that file until the disk was full, thus forcing MacOS to start to remove the Purgeable portion of the drive doesn’t work anymore. That is all handled by the operating system. If you don’t understand the above, don’t do it! The method is not a way of getting more space. Usually for installing Bootcamp or having multiple partitions on a drive. Read this before continuing: Only use this for making more room if you need to change the partition size of your disk. So here is how to remove the Purgeable part of the disk in MacOS High Sierra. Because of that, my old guide doesn’t work. I’ve written an article on how to remove the purgeable portion on a hard disk on MacOS, but in High Sierra, Apple has changed the file system from HFS+ to APFS. The flashing red light indicates one of two things: there may have been a power interruption and the intersection is treated as a four-way stop, or it indicates a dangerous intersection, and is used as an exclamation point to an already existing STOP sign. The red on this sign indicates that you are forbidden to continue driving in this direction. a point where you can see traffic in all directions. The STOP sign means that you are forbidden from entering an intersection until you have made a complete stop at one of three places: You may need to stop, but not necessarily. It means that you are forbidden from entering an intersection until you have yielded to all other traffic and pedestrians. The YIELD sign, for example, doesn't mean stop. Stop laws are covered in the Vehicle Code, Sections 21453. Without this tug, a "complete" stop was not made, and you will be marked off on your test for not making a full stop. The only way the examiner "knows" you made a complete stop on your drive test, is to feel the "inertia tug", where your body continues slightly forward when the car stops. In California, the Vehicle Code spells it out:Ģ2350 - No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.Īctually, red means that an action is forbidden (you don't "stop" at a red curb!), and whenever you see any red signal or road marking, it is up to you, as a responsible driver, to know what action is forbidden.Īlthough it seems simple enough, the definition of stop means all cessation of movement. NOTE: All 50 states have a basic speed law. Specially marked crosswalks and five-sided signs warns that you are approaching or are in the presence of a school. Sometimes lower speed limits are posted in the general vicinity of schools in addition to the school itself. You should follow the same speed limit when passing school grounds when children are present, and when passing a senior center. schools (25 mph, when children are present). There are special speed limits you must follow even if there is no sign erected, including: near schools, playgrounds, and on residential streets.driving on narrow bridges and in tunnels.when brake lights come on several cars ahead.near shopping centers, parking lots, and in downtown areas.Although there is no minimum speed limit in California, there is a law that requires you to not drive so slowly as to be unsafe. Many traffic violations involve speeding. It also allows time to analyze what you see and predict what might happen, react to any hazards that might require quick reflexes, and execute decisions to safely change directions and avoid hazardous situations. Reducing speed allows more time to see details of the urban driving environment such as pedestrians, road hazards, and traffic flow. |
